Deuteronomy Tarshish has been identified with Great Britain, but not on good grounds. It may be either Spain or Sardinia, for there was a [place known as] Tartessus in both areas. They are typical of those who will not initiate wrong-doing, but are eager to cash in on the proceeds of it. Then you will come from your place out of the far north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great company and a mighty army.
You will come up against My people Israel like a cloud, to cover the land. It will be in the latter days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me, when I am hallowed in you, O Gog, before their eyes. You will come from your place out of the far north, you and many peoples with you : At the appointed time, Gog and those allied with him would come against Israel. Certainly, this includes the seven nations or peoples mentioned in Ezekiel and likely means more not specifically mentioned.
All of them riding on horses, a great company : Ezekiel described the attack with the only images of swift military attack that made sense to Ezekiel, the people of his day, and most of human history. They would come like a cloud , a massive and unstoppable storm.
It will be in the latter days : Once again, Ezekiel emphasized that this attack against Israel would happen in the last days of human history as we presently know it.
God would bring it to pass then to glorify Himself among the nations so that the nations may know Me, when I am hallowed in you. The emphasis on this dramatic battle in the latter days has led many to wonder and speculate when Gog and his allies would attack Israel. No student of prophecy can afford tooverlook this phrase in the Old Testament or its parallel in the New Testament.
Yet, the information is not complete enough for much certainty among several options. It may in some way usher in the dominance of the final world leader and his government. It may mark the promised hostility against Israel and the Jewish people and their promised protection by God. There is a connection between Revelation and Ezekiel Each one of these scenarios has its own objections and problems, and this may be a case where the specific fulfillment of the prophecy is not truly understood until its fulfillment.
The mountains shall be thrown down, the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground. When Gog comes against the land of Israel…My fury will show in My face : Yahweh vowed that though Gog thought Israel would be an easy conquest Ezekiel , His own fury would rise against Gog and his allies.
The picture is of the breath which an angered man inhales and exhales through his nose. Surely in that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel : One way that God would defend Israel and come against Gog was to send a great earthquake. All men who are on the face of the earth shall shake at My presence : The great earthquake would humble man and bring glory to God.
As mountains and every wall fell, they would know it was the hand of the Lord at work. And I will bring him to judgment with pestilence and bloodshed; I will rain down on him, on his troops, and on the many peoples who are with him, flooding rain, great hailstones, fire, and brimstone. Thus I will magnify Myself and sanctify Myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations. Judges ; 1 Samuel ; Haggai ; Zechariah , while the Lord supernaturally destroyed them.
I will bring him to judgment with pestilence and bloodshed : Yahweh would also send disease and death against the attacking armies. This would be a demonstration of His justice. Flooding rain, great hailstones, fire, and brimstone : The instruments of previous judgments would all be sent against Gog and his allies. Ezekiel 38—39, by its position between the regathering of the nation of Israel to its land and the new temple in the millennial kingdom, apparently has some relationship to the battle of Armageddon.
If this chronology is thought to be strict, however, one should also note that the fulfillment of chapter 37 will not happen until the people of Israel are awakened spiritually Ezek. That is, strict chronology would also mandate that chapters 38 and 39 will not find fulfillment until after Israel as a nation recognizes their Messiah.
Ezekiel 38—39 should probably be related to Daniel — and Zechariah 12 and —5, among others. That current events in the Middle East are leading up to that battle is possible but still not so evident. But it will be a country in which President Vladimir Putin controls both the political and economic levers of power.
This trend has intensified since that was written. This world has a lot of authoritarian rulers. But Vladimir Putin is one we need to keep a particularly close eye on. His track record, his nationality and his ideology indicate that he could—and I strongly believe he will—fulfill a linchpin Bible prophecy that was recorded millennia ago. The time frame of his rule makes it almost certain.
Back around a. That means an army of million men! That is more people than were alive in the world when that prophecy was recorded. This is an end-time prophecy that we are certain to see fulfilled very soon. The Bible gives some important details about this largest army ever assembled on Earth.
It tells us which nations will contribute soldiers to it. It shows it will include the combined forces from several Asian nations. It also reveals that it will have one lead country —and one individual at the head. A prophecy in Ezekiel 38 gives us some of these important details.
The descendants of Meshech and Tubal have been found together throughout history. What about Tubal? One other Russian people is mentioned in Ezekiel There is controversy over how the Hebrew word rosh should be translated in this verse.
Rosh was the ancient name of Russia, once called Rus. Many encyclopedias and commentaries such as the Jamieson, Fausset and Brown Commentary recognize this. The use of all three names states that this is an individual ruler of all the peoples of Russia, from the west to the east. I strongly believe Vladimir Putin is going to lead the million-man army. Just look at the power he already has. Can you think of any other Russian politician who could become so powerful and have the will to lead Russia into the crisis of crises?
I see nobody else on the horizon who could do that. And only a tiny few years remain for the prince of Rosh to appear! It takes years for even a strong-willed leader to gain such control. Vladimir Putin already has the power—and the will to use it. I believe there is not enough time for a competitor to arise and challenge him. Details about this army are revealed in passages such as Revelation , Revelation 16, Daniel 11, Jeremiah 50 and Joel 2.
God is the one who will raise up this war machine! God is going to use this colossal Asian force to confront the military of united German-led Europe, which will also be on the scene at this time. It will obliterate Europe, but not the main European armies. These armies will meet to fight at Armageddon, but Christ will bring them to Jerusalem to fight Him and be defeated.
Revelation ; Jeremiah Current events show this army taking shape already. Russia has supplied China with many military armaments over the last decade or so; it also helped the Chinese go nuclear. Having established that Rosh should be taken as a proper name of a geographical area, the next task is to determine what geographical location is in view.
