Why is my bed squeak

The obvious answer is to get rid of that squeak, but how? That is a good way to track down exactly where the squeak is coming from — the first part of any solution. You can replace these with rubber washers if you prefer, but making sure the screw which is usually a crosshead screw is done up tight should stop the noise.

Step 2: On old metal beds, you can go around with that screwdriver and make sure everything is tightened up properly. In fact, this is a good thing to do on a regular basis to prevent any damage to the frame.

If your bed has casters on the feet more common with older models then they may need a little drop of three-in-one oil to banish any squeaks. Step 3: If the bed is on an uneven floor then you may need to do a bit of levelling up. Fourth on our list are broken slats and springs, these are a bit more serious and could mean a little bit of financial investment to sort the problem out.

Step 4: A broken bed slat can be replaced, but make sure you get the right size measure twice, cut once, as any carpenter will tell you! Step 5: If your bed frame is sprung then a broken spring may be difficult to replace and could indicate that the bed is coming to the end of its natural life. As they do, listen closely to find the culprit. Joints and corners are regular offenders of squeaky beds, so you will want to pay close attention when your friend nears these points.

After your friend has crawled across your bed, go to the footboard, and gently push your bed back and forth. Again, keep your ears open for the joints and corners which may be causing the most noise damage. Place the mattress and box spring flat on the floor, and slowly crawl across each of them. You may find the problem is actually not your bed frame at all. If you discover that the squeak is coming from your box spring, a little lubrication like WD should do the trick.

Bolts can easily come loose over time. Before you disassemble your frame, make sure the bolts that hold it together are tightly in their spots. The spine is made up of a series of interlocking vertebrae and discs. When we sleep in a poor bed due to misshapen bed springs, those discs are pinched between the vertebrae which is what leads to back pain.

If you sleep this way for a few nights, you may have a stiff back. If you continue to sleep on a poor mattress, those effects can compound and become long-term. Not only that, your mattress affects every part of your life, from the way we walk to how well we do at work.

Check out this post about how sleep and spinal well-being can affect your workflow. There are a few solutions to squeaky springs that may offer temporary solutions. One includes putting a board under your bed to increase tension, and another suggests flipping your mattress once every few months.
