Got to do a bit of painting, but too many interruptions to get serious about it. Electrician is coming back next week and is available to spend extra time here so I will get him to put a ceiling fan in the lounge room and restore some lighting.
I used to have two decorative lights hanging in one corner but they got very dated so got rid of them. All the wiring is still in the roof so now have to go shopping for the fan and some or one new light fitting. I only have lamps in the room now but decided to go back to a light for something different. Also have to find a new light for my dining room, the old one fell apart when we took it down to paint. I love the idea of shopping but just wish I had more time, it isn't fun when it is rushed.
Astraea, I'm surprised at your berber, normally it is very easy to clean as the thickness of it stops things getting down into it. Did you try just using the end of your vacuum hose, with my old carpet where it was wearing that was the only way I could get bits of fluff off at times, otherwise maybe your vacuum suction just isn't strong enough, which would be a worry as it means over time the carpet it will have it's own eco system down under.
Judy, I wonder if it is an age thing or are we just control freaks - you said the other day about how you had to leave a party early as after a certain time you have just had enough and I can really relate to that. Maybe I have had too long being able to please myself what I do and when I do it.
I really have no routine in my life unless I decide to make it so. I hate driving with other people, especially when they don't drive as I do, in fact I drive people mad stabbing the imaginery brake on my side of the car. I do take heart though in the fact many of my friends are more than happy to drive with me because they can relax and feel very confident and safe.
I will only drive manual cars, I feel so much more in control with gears but they are so second nature to me now that my friends are in absolute awe that I can drive, constantly checking mirrors and thoroughly aware of everything around me, be part of a conversation and change gears all without missing a beat. Paperback Swap is another good site--send in your unwanted, unread books for credit for new ones! I am working through a bunch of architecture books I bought for myself this Christmas. My favorite thus far is "The Language of Doors" by Paulo Vicente and Tom Connor, in mint condition and nicely illustrated as a basic primer of American Architecture with examples to transform the basic Cape Cod, American Foursquare, and builder "Colonial.
Use e-readers as well, but not as good for things with graphics. But found a wonderful resource today called the "Theory of Moldings" circa with lots of illustrations, and covering everything from Egyptian, Cretan, Greek and Roman, Indian, Medieval, and some Baroque. Really for the specialist, but very clearly written and explained, and the section in the back summarizing the principles are useful. Modern builders and most architects have lost the art of scale and proportion and this book explains how to put the details together so they work, even if it means going more simple with the details.
Very sensible. Kind of a bust here in Reston, VA. It did snow, fine powdery melted as it fell and turned to ice sort of snow. Got enough accumulation to cover the grass but not really measurable. About all it did was massively screw up everyone's schedules and rush hour because many local school districts either delayed or closed and the Federal Govt. I baked chocolate chip cookies. This is doable especially if you have friends and a case of beer Like Save.

Hello, I have watched this forum for over a year and decided at the end of the year to join the "owners". I am advertising and doing custom work with the tractor.
I have been asked to bid on moving some dirt for a home owner. I have calculated about yards using a trepezoid formula. It is in two piles approx and feet from the location where the dirt needs to be. After being moved, it needs to be smoothed out around a mound and feathered to match surrounding levels. Any ideas on bidding? Is it too large a job to take on with the little tractor? Apr 18, 2. EddieWalker Epic Contributor. Figure out what you will charge for hour, then estimate how long it will take you to move one yard of dirt.
My guess is that it will be at least half as cheap and three times faster for the homeowner to hire it to somebody with a full sized tractor with a one yard bucket. Even though the full sized tractor will charge more per hour, it will get done so much faster that you can't compete. If the material has to be moved any distance at all, it will be even more wasteful to try to do it with a compact tractor for hire.
I'm not saying a guy with a compact tractor can't do this, he can, but he can't do it for hire and by anywhere competitive with somebody with the right tools. That is if the move was on small acreage and the roads were dry.
