As well as organizing socials or meetings with the membership, say three for the year to have fun while we work. On that note, I would also like to commend all of the Past Presidents who have helped to lay the foundation which I and the other members of Council will continue to build. Undoubtedly, I can say that the.

This policy to be tabled in Parliament soon. In order for the engineering profession to be viable and well developed the government must have a strong interest in its development and put in policies to make this a reality otherwise we are moving around aimlessly, chasing after the wind.

We must partner with the Government to put policies in place that will redound to the development of our local engineers and by our local engineering consultancies. In order for new engineering consultancies to arise and the older ones to be re-energized and remain a growing concern the policies in place must support us. It is no secret that our local consultancies are struggling; some have downsized and some have had to shut down. However, it is in this economic space that we have to find life and seek new ideas to emerge from the ashes and continue to have a solid existence.

We have to find new energy and new ways to emerge. I am not seeking to create disharmony with the international organizations that come and find a livelihood here and also provide tremendous assistance with infrastructure and other technical issues, but the balance of power has to shift such that our local engineers have a space that will promote their continuous growth and development.

The development of the Young Engineer: Continue with our internship program by helping to place graduates from U-tech into a WIP program. Establishment of student chapter at UWI; to participate in career days, in high schools, to introduce students with the capacity for science, mathematics and technical competence to Engineering; the Presentation of a Young Engineers Award Annually.

If we have this, some criteria would have to be set or a competition had to select the Young Engineer of the Year; we may have to categorize and then offer one top award but we will have to flesh this out.

I believe it is a new day for the JIE: A new day of partnerships and relationships A new day of development and innovation It was indeed heartening to see the various organizations that came on board to support us. I am hoping at this time that our eyes would have been opened further to see what the JIE is, where the JIE intends to go in the future, what it is that you are contributing to the JIE and do hope that it will create the impetus for you to commit to supporting us.

Thank you J A tremendous. Your support to us has been Nicholas Wood. The week of activities was officially launched on September 4, at the University of Technology. Morais Guy, who deputized for Minister Dr.
